PARIS, Jul 29 (SW) - Paris St. Germain kicked off the start of the 2005/06 Ligue 1 campaign on Friday with an emphatic 4-1 opening day victory over Metz at the Parc des Princes.
The capital city club wasted no time in getting their season off to a flying start as new signing Bonaventure Kalou scored after just five minutes, heading in a corner kick from midfielder Jérôme Rothen. Edouard Cissé made it 2-0 when he found the net in the 38th minute after being set up by Kalou and it was 3-0 just after the restart when Rothen volleyed in a cross by man of the match Kalou. New signing and Korean international Jung-Hwan Ahn put Metz on the board with about 20 minutes to go after coming off of the bench, but ex-Lille player Christophe Landrin, another new PSG signing, restored the three-goal advantage with ten minutes to go on the clock. The other teams in Ligue 1 will compete in their opening matches this weekend with the highlight matches being Marseille vs. Bordeaux and Sunday's game between newly-promoted Le Mans and the club seeking to win a fifth straight title, Lyon. Round 1 Fixtures Saturday Marseille vs. Bordeaux Lille vs. Rennes Nancy vs. Monaco Nantes vs. Lens Nice vs. Troyes St. Etienne vs. Ajaccio Sochaux vs. Toulouse Strasbourg vs. Auxerre Sunday Le Mans vs. Lyon |
